films
Dragonfly, 2025 - ★★★★

One of those films where you feel like you’ve had a shared experience with everyone else in the cinema. Everyone stayed seated until the end of the credits and nobody spoke as they left. Not felt that for a long time.
After a few hours I’m still not sure what I think of the film overall. But it’s one I’ll be thinking about for a while yet.
Hedda, 2025 - ★★★★

There were a few things in my favour when seeing this 1) not knowing the source material 2) a small, almost empty cinema screen.
I was intrigued throughout by the use of sound. In places it was reminiscent of the chorus in a Greek tragedy. An extra character in the telling of the story for sure.
Unicorns, 2023 - ★★

Challenging but not for the reasons I expected. Don’t be fooled into thinking the straight white man doesn’t have all the power in this relationship.
The Stronghold, 2021 - ★★★

Glad I’ve already been to Marseille because I’m not sure this would encourage me to visit.
Signature Move, 2017 - ★★

Less wrestling than I expected. More gay than I expected. Make of that what you will.
The Old Guard 2, 2025 - ★★

Only really deserving of 1 star (it’s an entirely unnecessary and poorly thought out film) but gets the second because, well, Charlize Theron.
Saltburn, 2023 - ★★★

As ever I let the dust settle when everyone is talking about a film. It’s visually appealing and very well acted. Has the odd one-liner that elicited a laugh and a few cringe inducing moments. But otherwise, really, what was all the fuss about?
Dreams, 2024 - ★★★½

I was a little worried 20 minutes in that this was going to be a 90minute monologue from an unreliable narrator. Thankfully not.
What we did get was multiple perspectives on a story and unanswered questions on truth, love, power and infatuation.
Dreams (Sex Love), 2024 - ★★★½
