films
Aguirre, the Wrath of God, 1972 - ★★★★

Not as frenetic as I was expecting, but I did find I was keeping my eyes peeled throughout for where the next arrow, poison dart or back stabbing was coming from.
Plainclothes, 2025 - ★★★½

More engaging from a visual perspective than the story or connection to the characters. For the latter I felt it was missing some depth or nuance. The different perspectives, pace and quality of visuals felt frenetic and had my heart racing throughout.
Sentimental Value, 2025 - ★★★★★

Life is hard. Relationships are complex. We all contain multitudes etc
Dragonfly, 2025 - ★★★★

One of those films where you feel like you’ve had a shared experience with everyone else in the cinema. Everyone stayed seated until the end of the credits and nobody spoke as they left. Not felt that for a long time.
After a few hours I’m still not sure what I think of the film overall. But it’s one I’ll be thinking about for a while yet.
Hedda, 2025 - ★★★★

There were a few things in my favour when seeing this 1) not knowing the source material 2) a small, almost empty cinema screen.
I was intrigued throughout by the use of sound. In places it was reminiscent of the chorus in a Greek tragedy. An extra character in the telling of the story for sure.
Unicorns, 2023 - ★★

Challenging but not for the reasons I expected. Don’t be fooled into thinking the straight white man doesn’t have all the power in this relationship.
